PDL: Seals win, Frogs lose,
No Bay Area Team in US Open Cup
May 26th, 2008
In spite of their very good start this season, the two Bay Area based PDL teams, the San Francisco Seals and the San Jose Frogs, will not play the US Open Cup this season.
Last Friday, the San Jose Frogs lost for the first time this season at Fresno against the Fuego, last year's Southwest Division champion (0-2). After 5 games the Frogs have a total of 10 points with a record of 3-1-1. Fresno Fuego - SJ Frogs stats: Click here
The San Francisco Seals remain undefeated with 11 points (3-0-2) after five games. On Saturday, they earned 3 precious points with a 1-0 win against Ventura County Fusion. For the full match report on the official website of the Seals, Click Here.
Only the first team of the Southwest Division after four games qualifies for the US Open Cup. At the same time, the Los Angeles Legends were winning their fourth game 5-0 against the San Fernando Valley Quakes. With three more points, the Legends now have 11 points in four games, like the Frogs, but with a better goal difference that offers them a privilege to represent the PDL's Southwest division in the US Open Cup.
However, both teams are still in a good position in the League and keep hope of finishing in the top 2 and reaching the playoffs. After 5 games, the Seals are in the first position with 11 points and the Frogs, with 10 points, share the second position with the Legends (one less game played) and the Fresno Fuego.Click here for the tables on the official USL website.
