A muddy scrimmage

Sunday February 24th, 2008 - 1 p.m.

MLS Central Coast Showcase - Alex G. Spanos Stadium
San Luis Obispo

attendance: 4,342

Even though the rain had stopped when the match started yesterday, the Earthquakes had to fight against mud, as much as against their opponent of the day (DC United)! However, in the final game of the MLS Central Coast Showcase, both teams played with fervor,  with the satisfaction for the SJE of having created the best opportunities and kept the new argentinian star player of DC United (signed in January from Paris-S.G., French Ligue 1), Marcello Gallardo  quiet.

Kei Kamara was the most dangerous man again yesterday, after he scored the 2 winning goals last Friday against Columbus Crew, creating a few opportunities in these difficult conditions, and the Earthquakes could even have won the game with in the injury time when Matt Taylor's strike was miraculously saved by Jose Carvallo.

Overall, the muddy conditions did not allow the Quakes to confirm their technical improvements, but once again, they proved that, on tactical and physical aspects of the game, they are already totally competitive compared to other MLS teams. This is already great news for Soccer in the Bay Area!

The San Jose based team is back in the Bay Area today for a little more than two weeks training. No other match is scheduled before March 15, when they enter the Carolina Challenge Cup in Charlestone against Toronto FC.
